Description
Presented by Malashock Dance

Malashock Dance teams up with Art of Élan to create an evening of original choreography set to live music by three of today’s most exciting and appealing composers, David Bruce, Judd Greenstein, and Osvaldo Golijov.

LIFEBLOOD HARMONY reflects multiple takes on our ability to remain hopeful in the face of overwhelming adversity and, more astonishingly, that the darkest moments often lead to the greatest creative leaps.

Malashock has partnered with Art of Élan Directors, Kathryn Hatmaker and Demarre McGill, to choose an incredibly varied and dynamic program. The performances will consist of:

At the End of a Really Great Day - Composer: Judd Greenstein

The Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind - Composer: Osvaldo Golijov

Gumboots - Composer: David Bruce

Artistic Director John Malashock will choreograph three original works, incorporating ten dancers, sharing the stage with six Art of Élan musicians.

Thematically, the dances will embody three vastly different styles of music, adding another interpretation to that of the composers'. Greenstein's At the End of a Really Great Day has a light spirit, born of the philosophy that one could live life in a manner consistent with hoping to die "at the end of a really great day." Golijov's Dreams and Prayers of Isaac the Blind goes the opposite direction, into a dark and mysterious spirituality that seems to draw creative inspiration and acceptance of all that we don't understand. Bruce's Gumboots brings both light and dark together, having been inspired by a form of dancing originated in the oppressive confines of South African goldmines. It is a graphic example of irrepressible spirit.
